Junior Troop 329 took time out of a busy schedule to enjoy some roller-skating in Sumter.

Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts in Clarendon County had a very active and fun-filled year, according to leader Jo-Ann Corman.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 329 of Manning worked on a Global Warming theme for their 2006-2007 scouting year.

In September, the troop went camping and October brought a “Crazy Egg” hunt. Pottery classes were held in November and December found the Junior Scouts out in the community for holiday caroling.

January and February was “cookies, cookies, cookies,” according to Corman, referring to the annual scouting tradition of Girl Scout cookie sales.

The troop took a walk from the Presbyterian Church at Manning to Pizza Hut in February as well as a roller skating trip to Sumter.

In March, Troop 329 assisted at the Scottish Festival in Sumter. In April, they took a trip to Bee City Farm and then held a special dance in May.

Community service for the year for Troop 329 was “M&M,” Munchies for the Military. The troop sent 11 large cases of cookies and candies to armed services troops stationed overseas.

Brenda Loges served as assistant leader for Troop 329.

The Cadettes and Senior Scouts of Troop 338 were no less busy.

Under the leadership of Jo-Ann Corman, assisted by Debra Peebles and Brandi Hodge, members of Troop 338 continued their tradition of leadership.

August found the girls at a water park in Myrtle Beach and in September, the troop oversaw sports and games at camp. They also assisted with camp cooking.

October brought a bowling trip as well as leading the egg hunt for the younger troops.

In December, the Cadettes and Seniors held painting classes and led the junior scouts in caroling.

There were two Silver Award events in January with a night out for dinner at The Olive Garden in February.

Of course, the traditional cookie sale took up much of the scout’s time in January and February.

In March, the Cadette/Senior scouts oversaw the children’s games at the Scottish Festival.

April and May were consumed with plans for the Court of Awards ceremony in May. Troop 338 designed and planned the event from start to finish, including producing programs, invitations, skits and music.

The year was concluded with a three-day trip to St. Augustine, Florida for relaxation and fellowship. Special thanks goes to Larry Nelson for transporting the 14 young women. “It wasn’t easy,” said Corman.

At the May 10, 2007, 8th Annual Court of Awards ceremony, the following individuals were recognized:

Junior Girl Scouts Christine Garris, Jaumonique Harrison and Toray Pompey all received their Bronze Award, the highest award given to a Junior Girl Scout.

Cadette Caitlin Thigpen received her Silver Award, the highest award given to a Cadette Scout.

Kimberly Conyers earned her gold award, the highest award given to a Senior Scout.
