Virginia Rosalie McNally

Virginia Rosalie “Ginny” McNally, age 83, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Windsor Manor Nursing Home in Manning.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on February 5, 1924, Ginny lived in the Philadelphia area for over 50 years before moving to Summerton, and was a daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor M. J. Auckland. She worked at Dodge Steel and other places in Philadelphia, and retired from Moll Advertising Agency in Abingdon, Pa., where she was secretary of the company. She joined the U. S. Navy during WWII and served as secretary to an admiral. She was a member of Somerton United Methodist Church in Philadelphia and later of Summerton United Methodist Church in Summerton. She was an officer of the Alumni Association of Lower Moreland High School, Class of 1941, a bowler, an avid square dancer, and a community volunteer, receiving the State of South Carolina Tutor of the Year Award, where she served from 1986 to 2004 as a volunteer literacy tutor and being honored for 27 years of service to the Windsor Manor Nursing Home. She also collaborated with others to establish and run Summerton Quality of Life, an outreach program to folks in need.

Surviving are sisters, Ellen Brous of Bristol, Phebe Ofterdinger of Atlanta, GA, Gloria Kraus of Norristown, and E. Jeanne Horn of Bensalem; also by step-children, Lynn Barber of New York, John McNally of Churchville, James McNally of Pa., Dana McNally of Conn., Larry McNally of State College, Marjorie McNally of Florida; several step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by beloved husbands, William Bradbury and John McNally; and a brother, Richard Auckland.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Summerton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bob Allen officiating.

Memorials may be made to Somerton United Methodist Church in Pa., or to Summerton United Methodist Church, 2 Briggs Avenue, Summerton, S.C. 29148.
