Lawrence L. Baxter

Lawrence Leroy “Sonny” Baxter died April 30, 2007, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Aug. 30, 1948, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Victoria Shannon Baxter. Sonny was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed by Covenant Trucking for 13 years. Sonny was a member of Prayer House Mission Holiness Church under the pastorate of the Rev. E. Carter.

Three sisters preceded him in death, Mary Baxter, Emma Baxter Hilton and Belle Baxter Wilson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leatha Baxter of Summerton; three sons, Donald (Marcia) Baxter of Houston, Texas, Leroy (Theresa) Baxter of Norwalk, Conn., and Sonny Baxter of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Janet (Charles) Green of Columbia, Aretha Frierson of Houston and Angela Baxter of Summerton; 23 grandchildren, Aijah, Xavier, Courtney, Donald, Nicky, A.J., Elijuwa, QuaNeicey, Krystol, Charliyah, Charles, T.J., Tiffany, Johnathan, Justin, Christopher, Angela, Nayeli, Lavelle, Keen, Quan, Shanta and Jaylen; four sisters, Bessie (Waiters) Wright of Dallas, Texas, Mozell (Willie) Fryer of Augusta, Ga., Helen Baxter of Summerton and Eva P. Perry of San Deigo, Calif.; a caring and compassionate niece and caregiver, Patsy (Steve) White of Summerton; a special friend, Dorothy Hillard of Summerton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Prayer House Mission Holiness Church, Davis Crossroads, with Pastor Eartha Carter officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Summerton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.
