Gracie P. Richburg
Gracie Palmer Richburg, 87, wife of Joseph J. Richburg Sr., died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at her residence in Summerton.
Born Dec. 5, 1920, in the St. Paul section of Summerton, she was a daughter of the late James Edward and Plummie Seals Palmer. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Liberty Hill AME Church. After marriage, she joined Spring Hill AME Church, where she served on the stewardess board, trustee board, missionary society, pulpit aide committee and in many other capacities. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and graduated from Morris College with a Bachelor of Science degree. She taught in Clarendon School District One and retired after 32 years of service.
She was preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Richburg Sr. of the home; one daughter, Saphronia (Aaron) Clark of Baltimore, Md.; one son, Joseph (Lillian) Richburg Jr. of Richmond, Va.; one brother, James E. (Eloise) Palmer; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Spring Hill AME Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Harold Conyers, pastor, presiding, the Rev. Joseph W. Clark, eulogist, assisting retired Elder Alonzo Middleton, Elder Malachi Duncan and the Rev. Rufus Gaymon.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
