Rochester Johnson

EL PASO, Texas – Rochester Johnson, son of the late Thomas Sr. and Blanche Carrigan Johnson, was born June 9, 1930. He departed this life Tuesday, April 29, 2008.

Rochester served in the U.S. Army for 25 years. He received numerous awards and medals, including the Silver Star for Valor, the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired in 1975 as a 1st sergeant and was highly respected. He was very loved and respected by many in the community. He was a very strong-willed man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Shirley Stukes Johnson; five children; a brother, Preston (Bertha Stukes) Johnson of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Eloise S. Jackson of Manning and Yvonne S. Cook of Little Rock, Ark.; four brothers-in-law, Bobby Stukes and Bernard Stukes of Sumter, Tony Stukes of Summerton and Lynvalle Stukes of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 909 E. San Antonio Ave., El Paso, Texas 79901.

A memorial services was held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home, Northeast, El Paso.
