Alice S. Billups
Alice Sweat Billups, 88, widow of John Williams Billups, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.
Born Aug. 19, 1919, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Bossie Sweat and Julia Johnson. She was a graduate of Manning Training School.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include five daughters, Alice Evelyn Johnson of Miami, Fla., Jessie Kelley, Patsy (Wayne) Murphy, Janie (Charlie) Nesbitt and Stella Lemmon, all of Manning; four sons, Thomas Lee (Catherine) Billups of Miami, John (Ida) Billups Jr. of Paxville, Leon (Willistean) Billups and James Lee (Corrine), both of Manning; two granddaughters she reared as her own, Ozetta (John) McBride and Antwanette Worthy, both of Manning; and three sisters, Cora Pack of Manning, Daisy Cantey of Paxville and Beatrice Major of Sumter.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Mount Zero Missionary Baptist Church, Paxville, with the Rev. Henry Presley, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. Major Lloyd and Minister Lillian Wright.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
