Christine L. Raffield
DALZELL – Graveside services for Christine Lybrand Raffield, widow of John Benjamin Raffield Jr., of Dalzell, were held on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Tirzah Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Dalzell, with the Revs. Jody P. Foster and Eugene Franklin officiating.
Mrs. Raffield, 96, died Sunday, April 22, 2007.
Born April 5, 1911, in Swansea, she was a daughter of the late Compton K. Lybrand and the late Callie Busbee Lybrand. She was a graduate of Wagener High School and attended Chicora College for Women in Columbia. She retired from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission after more than 30 years, serving in her later years as assistant manager of the Sumter office. A member of Tirzah Presbyterian Church since shortly after her move to Dalzell in 1930, she was active in the women of the church.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years; two brothers, W.A. Lybrand of Wagener and Dorcey Lybrand of Aiken; a nephew, John Allen Lybrand of Orangeburg; and a daughter-in-law, Patsy Bullock Raffield of Dalzell.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Raffield of Dalzell; a son, John B. (Kay) Raffield III of Woodrow; grandchildren, John B. Raffield IV of Dalzell, Christopher Bullock (Lisa) Raffield of Sumter, Charles Joseph (Emily) Davis Jr. of Columbia, and Kathleen Cain Davis (Joseph) Durant of Sumter; a niece, Christina “Tina” Lybrand of Mount Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Bert Wactor of Elloree; and great-grandchildren.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
