The Clarendon Scene ... as seen in Clarendon

It was “Mission: History” as Laurence Manning Academy’s fourth graders, under the instruction of Dee Dee Horton and Kathryn Jans toured several of the stops from Manning to Boykin’s Mill in Kershaw County to follow the 1865 progression of General Potter’s military movements. The classes also stopped at Manchester State Forest and explored the remains of the train tracks that were destroyed during the attack.

Seventh grade social studies teacher Harold Brunson was named Employee of the Month for the Clarendon One School District. Superintendent Rose Wilder said that Brunson is “always doing something on behalf of our children.”   The Bank of Clarendon threw an all-star bash for retiring employee Mary Alsbrook last Friday. Alsbrook is leaving the bank after 41 (yes, 41!) years of service. She was presented with a lovely necklace from Bank President Barry Ham and Chairman of the Board Bill Buyck, as well as other gifts from the staff. Alsbrook, pictured here with her husband Marvin (left), says she is going to spend time with her 11-year-old grandson Wyatt Alsbrook and help her husband with his lawn business. Alsbrook will be greatly missed by her co-workers, not only for her great skill, but for her happy demeanor and famous biscuits.
