Jimmie Blackwell

Jimmie “Rain” Blackwell, 48, husband of Dorothy Green Blackwell, died April 9, 2007, at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence.

Born Aug. 6, 1958, in Alcolu, he was a son of Larry James Rush and Onetta Blackwell McFadden and stepson of Junior McFadden. He received his formal education in East Clarendon and Olanta High schools. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Harmony Presbyterian Church. He worked in construction until his health failed.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy G. Blackwell of the home; mother and stepfather, Onetta and Junior McFadden of Olanta; father, Larry James Rush of Lake City; nieces he reared as his own, Deanna Green, Kaniyah Green, Aaliyah Green and NyLaisha Green, all of the home; seven brothers, Alphonso Blackwell and Bishop Wayne (Betty) Blackwell, both of Olanta, James (Mary) Nelson of Brooklyn, N.Y., James Johnson of Manning, Gary L. (Mona) Rush of New Canton, Va., James A. (Corine) Rush of Stuart, Fla., and Audrey (Ruby Lee) Rush of New Zion; 11 sisters, Delois Blackwell of Connecticut, Gloria A. (Harry) Frierson of Scranton, Loretta (Herman) Brown of Olanta, Wanda Rush of Dalzell, Georgie Nelson and Evelyn Nelson, both of Manning, Sadie A. Nelson and Della N. Miller, both of Alcolu, Barbara (Kyle) Raindrop and Margurite N. (Joe) Moten, both of Sumter, and Linda N. (Ashley) White of Jonesboro, Ga.; and one stepsister, Shirley Smith.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Alcolu, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton officiating.

Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.
