Desmond R. Conyers

Desmond Rayon Conyers, 15, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

Born Oct. 15, 1992, in Sumter, he was a son of Michael and Virginia Heyward Conyers. Mr. Conyers received his education from the public schools of Clarendon County and was a freshman at Manning High School. Desmond was an academically gifted student at Manning Junior High School, had received numerous awards and was an honor roll student. He attended Calvary Baptist Church, where he was active in the usher’s ministry, brotherhood association, young people’s choir and a member of the Black River Association Young People’s Choir. He loved and adored his family, church family, teachers and classmates.

Survivors include his loving parents; a big brother, Michael Conyers Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; three godsisters, Cherisa (Raymond) Reuben of Sumter, Marissa Pugh of Manning and Savannah Williams of Sumter; a godniece and a godnephew; a grandmother, Adline Conyers, and great-grandmother, Rosa Hill, both of Sumter; 11 aunts; 10 uncles; and a host of cousins, special family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jeremiah (Lena) Heyward; grandfather, Miller Conyers; great-grandfather, Tom Hill; and great-grandmother, Miley Aaron.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Manning High School with the Rev. E.L. Sanders, pastor, officiating, assisted by Minister Thomas Conyers, the Rev. Dr. D.L. Grant Sr., the Rev. Mose Dingle and the Rev. John Johnson, presiding.

Burial was in Calvary-Zion Hill Cemetery.

Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
