Annie Mae J. Clark

Annie Mae Johnson Clark, 86, widow of Moses Clark Jr., died Tuesday, April 9, 2008, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born July 13, 1921, in the Santee dam section of Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Davis and Viola Thomas Johnson. She received her formal education at Society Hill School, Clarendon County. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Society Hill AME Church and later joined Mount Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health failed.

Survivors include six sons, Edward (Brenda) Clark of Manning, James (Barbara) Clark and Joseph Clark, both of Buffalo, N.Y., John Peter (Helen) Clark and Robert Lee (Robbie) Clark, both of Newark, N.J., and Kenneth (Judy) Clark of Rochester, N.Y.; nine daughters, Barbara Jean Clark, Annie J. (Pat) Clark and Shelia M. Clark, all of Manning, Lillie Mae (Sonny) Johnson, Pinease (Frank) Robinson and Bernice Clark, all of Buffalo, Loretta Clark of Washington, D.C., Lovenia Clark of Sumter and Ruth Felder of Connecticut; one brother, Preston (Inez) Johnson of Manning; three sisters, Mary Boyd of East Otto, N.Y., Catherine Dixon of Philadelphia, Pa., and Alice White of Manning; 31 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 14, 2008, at Mount Chapel Baptist Church in Manning with the Rev. Carnell Witherspoon, pastor, officiating, assisting the Rev. O’Donald Dingle.

Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
