| Nothing goes together like cops and doughnuts. Officers Eric Rosdail and Allen Lee will be two of the “boys in blue” (or black) selling doughnuts to raise money for Relay For Life on April 25. |
Police and doughnuts go well together and it’s hard to pass a doughnut shop and not think you see at least one police car in the parking lot. But on April 25, the officers of the Manning Police Department are going to sell doughnuts instead of eat them.
“It’s the only time of year that we cops will let go of our doughnuts willingly,” said Manning Police Officer and Relay For Life Chair Pete Surette. “You know at the (police) academy they teach you how to drive with a cup of coffee and a doughnut in hand.”
Surette is talking about the City of Manning’s fifth annual doughnut sale that is going to raise money for the city’s Relay For Life team.
“Last year we sold 450 dozen doughnuts in one day and we were done about noon,” Surette said.
This year’s sale starts at 6 a.m. April 25, at the Manning Police Station and is predicted to sell 500 dozen doughnuts if not more.
“We order them from Krispy Kreme in Florence and they deliver them to us at 5 a.m. so we will be out there early,” he said.
Surette said that patrons can stop by that morning to purchase a box of a dozen doughnuts or people can call ahead and order them by calling the Manning Police station during business hours.
Doughnut flavors this year include glazed, chocolate glazed, lemon-filled, raspberry-filled, blueberry-filled and cinnamon twists.
The cost for one box this year is $5 for glazed and $6 for the other flavors.
“We really want to sell as many as we can and we encourage people to go ahead and call in their orders. Remember this is going to a really good cause,” Surette said.
Anyone interested can call the Manning Police Department at 435-8859.
Surette said that all the money needs to be collected April 24 to help pay for the doughnuts when they are delivered.
