Claudius D. Walker

On Saturday, March 31, 2007, Claudius D. Walker died in Bowie, Md.

Born in Manning on April 26, 1931, he was a son of the late Cohen Walker and Edelle Miller-Walker. He was the husband of Yvonne K. Walker; father of Claudette Walker, Michelle Walker-Malloy and Nicole Walker (children of former wife, Francis Walker); and stepfather of Gregory and Guy Brown.

Claudius acquired his early education in Manning and earned a degree in chemistry from Tuskegee Institute. He received his second lieutenant commission through ROTC in the U.S. Air Force and, after graduation, became a member of the 59th Fighter Squadron. He also earned his master’s degree from the University of the District of Columbia. Active in his religious commitment, he was an elder and lay minister at Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Narcissus Walker-Spry; and one brother, Milton Walker.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his sisters, Mary Ida Stephens of Atlanta, Ga., Persephone (Isadore) Powell of Severn, Md., Ruth Ola Neal of Columbus, Ohio, and Willian Walker of Manning; and brothers, Jerome Walker of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Edwin Walker of Charleston.

The funeral was held on April 7, 2007, at Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church, Washington, D.C.

J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home of Washington, D.C., was in charge of services.
