Ida Mae Davis
Ida Mae Seymour Taylor Davis, 85, of Alcolu, entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born May 20, 1921, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo Gordon and Rebecca Tomlin Seymour Gordon. In her youth, she joined Mulberry Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, where she was a faithful member of the senior choir for many years. She received her education in the public schools of Clarendon County.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, six sons, Harry (Ellease) Davis of Philadelphia, Pa., Rufus Davis Jr. of Buena Park, Calif., Christopher Taylor of Columbia, Vernond (Vilma) Davis of Gable, Charles Taylor and Thomas Lavon (Jane) Davis, both of Sumter; four daughters, Rebecca (Larrie) Jenkins of Brandon, Fla., Janet (Ellison) McBride, Delphinia (Jerel) Moses, both of Sumter, and Gail Jacklen (Jeffrey) Tharp of Decatur, Ga.; one sister, Izona Roberts of Sumter; son-in-law, Henry Williams of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Lucinda Seymour of Philadelphia and Marie Davis of Summerton; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lottie O. Williams.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 6, at Mulberry Baptist Church.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Community Funeral Home of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
