The Clarendon Scene ... as seen in Clarendon

Christine Brewer recently celebrated 52 years with The Bank of Clarendon. Though she officialy “retired” on May 31, 2001, she returned the next week as a part time employee. Pictured are Bank President Barry Ham, Brewer, Chairman of the Board and CEO Bill Buyck and Past President A.C. English. The bank presented Brewer with a silver “loving cup” for her more than half-century of dedication.   The Easter Bunny was on hand for face painting for children attending the “Eggstravaganza” Easter festivity at J.C. Britton Park last Saturday afternoon. Members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church conducted the event, which included an Easter egg hunt, jump castle and much, much more. Colder than normal temperatures may have kept some families away, but those who did attend enjoyed fun times and wholesome entertainment for the children.

The drum line in the Manning High School Marching Band played for Bi-Lo customers last Saturday. The band performed as part of a joint fundraising and sales event at the store. Band director Ray Francis and the Marching Monarchs performed their old reliables like the theme from ESPN and “Final Countdown” and also played some new numbers such as, “I Want Candy.” Large crowds of customers were not deterred by a cold wind, shopping at Bi-Lo and taking in the sights and sounds of the band.   Manning Rotarian and Manning Primary School mentor Charlie Gavin (far left) took his “study buddy” Alphonza Hasty on his first visit to The Bank of Clarendon on March 14. Pictured are Gavin and Hasty along their tour guide David Felder and Manning Primary School Assistant Principal Pam Buddin.
