Luther McFadden Sr.

Luther “Pie” McFadden Sr., 81, husband of Eliza Herring McFadden, died April 2, 2008, at his residence in Turbeville.

Born Nov. 14, 1926, in New Zion, he was the son of the late Absalom Sr. and Besty Burgess McFadden. He attended the Melina Parochial School, Sardinia. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church. He was a farmer until his health failed.

Survivors include his wife, Eliza Herring McFadden of the home; five daughters, Barbara (Ed) McFadden, Edrena (Joseph) Floyd and Gaynell (Robert) McFadden, all of Turbeville, Catherine (J.W.) McDowell of Olanta and Eliza Jane McFadden of Lake City; three sons, Luther (Joyce) McFadden Jr. and Ben Allen (Bernetta) McFadden, both of Columbia, and Jasper (Cynthia) McFadden of Lake City; two sisters, Ruth Singleton of Manning and Susie Mae McFadden of New Zion; two brothers, Rudolph McFadden and Absalom “Peter” (Ruth) McFadden Jr., both of New Zion; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 7, 2008, at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Turbeville, with the Rev. Shelly Hickson, pastor, officiating, assisting the Revs. Lucious Wheeler and William Dillenbeck.

Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
