Loran R. Shaffer Jr.
Loran Ray Shaffer Jr., 76, husband of Velma McMillen Shaffer, died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at his home in Manning.
Born Dec. 22, 1930, in Morgantown, W.Va., he was a son of the late Loran Ray Shaffer Sr. and the late Gertrude Hostetler Shaffer. He was a retired electrical engineer, a United States Navy veteran and a graduate of West Virginia University. Mr. Shaffer attended Manning United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years of Manning; a son, Michael Ray Shaffer of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Suzanne M. Spicer of Fort Mitchell, Ky., Sally S. Dempsey of Centreville, Va., and Amy S. Weiss of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Dolores McKenzie of Hendersonville, N.C., and Carla McManus of Cleveland; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Michelle and Christina Shaffer, Logan and Michael Spicer, Jessica and Erin Dempsey and Connor and Madison Weiss.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Debra Quilling officiating.
