Manning resident Doris Bates was very appreciative of the efforts of Deputy Rusty Richardson of the Clarendon Sheriff’s Department in helping to install the child safety seat for Bates’ three-month-old granddaughter, Jaynia Guest. The child safety seat inspection, held March 17 at the new Wal-Mart, was a joint effort between the S.C. Highway Patrol, the Clarendon Sheriff’s Dept. and the Manning Police Dept. “I bought the highest rated seat I could find,” Bates said. “But it was also the most complicated to install. I was so glad they were doing this because it was very important to me that my grandchild was safe in my vehicle.”   Chiffon Johnson struts her stuff at a pre-Easter fashion show at Val’s Boutique in Summerton sponsored by the Bread of Life People Helping People Ministry. Owner/evangelist Eliza Quzack said proceeds would go to area churches as well as to aid the recovery of fellow evangelist Walt Braddock, who injured both of his legs after falling off a scaffold.
