Mary D. Ellis

Mary Dingle Ellis, 67, widow of Sam Ellis Jr., died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born May 5, 1940, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Talmadge and Emma Pearson Dingle. She received her formal education at Spring Hill School, Davis Station. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joined White Oak AME Church and later joined Clarendon Healing Temple, where she served faithfully as mother of the church and in many other capacities.

She is survived by two daughters, Felicia Ellis and Betty (Ronnie) Levy, both of Manning; three sons, James (Minnie) Dingle of Manning, Jimmy (Tonya) Ellis and Sammy Ellis, both of White Plains, N.Y.; one sister, Maybell (Roosevelt) Wright of Manning; three brothers, Levi Dingle and Willie “Albert” Dingle, both of Charleston, and Moses (Dorothy) Dingle of Manning; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Dingle, one great-grandchild, six brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Triumph the Church Kingdom of God of Christ in Manning, with Prince Sampson Pearson, presiding, Elder James Betrand, eulogist, assisting the Revs. David Lawson and Thomas Junior.

Burial followed in the Clarendon Healing Temple churchyard cemetery in Manning.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements..
