Jimmy D. Shumate
Jimmy Dale Shumate, 53, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at his home.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of Weldon H. Shumate and the late Frances Ophelia Shelton Shumate.
He was a member of New Start Church of the Nazarene and attended Calvary Nazarene Church. He was the retired owner and operator of New Day Heating and Air. He was an avid fisherman and martial arts expert.
Survivors besides his father of Sumter include two brothers, Robert H. (Pam) Shumate of Sumter, and Anthony Keith (Pam) Shumate of Alcolu; two nephews, Jason Flagler and Justin Keith Shumate; a niece, Brittany Flagler; a great-niece, Brooklin Rose; his companion, Linda Roman of Sumter; his former wife, Deborah McIntosh Shumate of Sumter; two stepchildren, Larry McIntosh Jr. and Angela K. Christmas; and three step-grandchildren, Chloe Christmas, Allison Grace Christmas and Abby McIntosh.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles Everett Shelton and Laura Annie Shelton, and his paternal grandparents, William Thomas Shumate and Sarah Emily Atkinson Shumate.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. G.W. Harrell and Dale Turner officiating.
Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Charles McMillan, Sammy Harrell, Glenn Harrell, Johnny Walters, Ricky Compton and Jim Price.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mitchell Jaycocks, Dr. John Fleming and physicians of The Heart Institute of Columbia.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
