Anna Margaret Yates
Anna Margaret Coker Yates, 85, wife of Jim Purvis Yates, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at National Health Care of Sumter.
Born March 25, 1922, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late Archie Elston and Margaret Ellen Sims Coker. She was a retired seamstress and retired BandD employee. Mrs. Yates was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Sumter.
Surviving besides her husband of Sumter are two daughters, Judy McLeod and Deborah Scott and George of Sumter; four sons, Pat Yates and Sandi of Manning, Joel Yates and Dawn, Bracey Yates and Kathy, and Michael Yates and Patsy, all of Sumter; four granddaughters, Susan McLeod, Betsy Beatson and Brad, Misty Yates and Michelle Yates; eight grandsons, Chris McLeod, Jonathan McLeod, Jody Yates, Matthew Yates, Joshua Yates, Jamie Yates, Brian Scott and Gene DuBose; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Polly and Cleve Hill.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, George McLeod; a grandson, Greg McLeod; a great-grandchild, Kalyn McLeod; seven brothers, Woodrow Laverne Coker, Brightman Blonzo Coker, Edward Rudolph Coker, Dewey Burdell Coker, Archie Kelly Coker, Forest Coker and Ledell Coker; and two sisters, Mary Bochette and Odessa Browder.
The family would like to express a special thanks to all at NHC for their kind support.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 10, 2008, in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home in Sumter, with the Rev. Larry Christopher officiating.
Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning, was in charge of the arrangements.
