Hattie Mae Jones

VIRGINIA – Hattie Mae Jones died on March 5, 2008, at Westport Health Care Center.

She was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Summerton to the late Edward Jones Sr. and the late Rebecca Jackson Jones. She attended Scott’s Branch High School and later relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y. It was in Brooklyn where she met and joined in matrimony to the late Walter Robert Jones Jr. This union was blessed with two children, Walter Robert Jones III and Miranda Sharon Lee LaVaughn. She joined the Tabernacle House of Prayer Church, where she was certified as a missionary. After living in New York for 34 years, she relocated to Richmond, Va. She was a loving, devoted and giving wife, mother and grandmother, who was loved by all who knew her. She was very generous and will always have a special place in everyone’s heart.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her two children, Walter Robert (Stacey) Jones III and Miranda Sharon Lee (Gregory) LaVaughn, both of Richmond; a stepdaughter, Athena Felice Walker of Peoria, Ill.; two sisters, Linda (Dimitrios) Sabb and Aleatha Jones of Summerton; a brother, Edward Jones Jr. of Brooklyn; a sister-in-law, Blanche Elizabeth (Mike) Smith of Goochland, Va.; 11 grandchildren (including a special grandchild, Sharena); a host of nieces, nephews (including a special nephew, Johnny Ragin), cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at St. Mark AME Church with the Rev. Ernest Brown, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in St. Mark Memorial Garden.

King Funeral Home of Summerton was in charge of arrangements.
