Herbert W. Hudson Sr.

Herbert W. Hudson Sr., 71, beloved husband of Patricia Ann Bartlett Hudson, died March 4, 2008, after an extended illness of heart disease and diabetes.

Born in Sumter on May 16, 1936, he was a son of the late John David “Bozie” Hudson Sr. and the late Susie Atkins Hudson Bochette. He gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ on Sept. 19, 2006, and for that we give God the honor and glory.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Herbert Hudson Jr. of Sumter and Donald Steven (Mary) Hudson of Walhalla; two daughters, Mary Frances (Jim) Demster and Brenda Louise Hudson, both of Sumter; nine grandchildren, Crystal (Jim) Hall of Pelzer, Terri Jennifer (Matt) Sestokas, Becky (Patrick) Ashford of Sumter, Jonathan Stidd of Killeen, Texas, Andy Stidd of Augusta, Ga., Herbert “Bert” Hudson III, Eric Hudson of Manning, Courtney Hudson of Florence and Tucker Hudson of Walhalla; five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Jessie (Vivian) Hudson, John David Hudson Jr. of Sumter, Tommy (Brenda) Hudson, Mike (Sherrie) Bochette of Orangeburg and Butch (Regina) Bochette of Bear Creek, N.C.; three sisters, Henrietta Smith, Rosa Lee (John) Maslanko and Catherine (Thomas) Kraft, all of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Nathan Hudson; and two sisters, Leatha Truett and Susan Robinson.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 6, 2008, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marion “Pete” Hudson, the Rev. Timothy Hudson, the Rev. Dale Turner and the Rev. G.W. Harrell officiating.

Burial was in the Pocalla Holiness Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Glenn Harrell, Sammy Harrell, James Byrd Jr., Justin Hyatt, James Price Jr., Jonathan McFaddin and Kevin Ardis.

The family would like to give special thanks to those from Hospice for the love and care they have shown.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
