Ida Bell B. Billups

Ida Bell Burgess Billups, 46, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at her home.

Born Aug. 7, 1951, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of John Wesley Burgess and Lula Bell Conyers Burgess.

She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age she accepted Christ as her savior and joined Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the choir until her health failed.

Ida leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband, John Billups of Paxville; a daughter, Thomasina Billups of Paxville; a son, John (Michele) Edward Burgess of Ashburn, Va.; her mother, Lula Bell Conyers Burgess of Paxville; her father, John Wesley Burgess of Louisburg, Tenn; five sisters, Virginia Canty, Loretta (Albert) Gamble and Celestine (Kenneth) Huggins, all of Sumter, Diane (Wayne) Ragin of Wedgefield and Letha (Al) Adams of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, John (Evangelist Susan) Burgess and James Larry (Linda) Burgess, both of Thomasville, N.C., and Robert B. (Inez) Burgess of Sumter; five additional sisters-in-law; three additional brothers-in-law; five grandchildren, Mel, Maine, Nek, Meka and Quawn; five aunts; a close friend, Gladys Harris; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Burgess, and a brother, Lennon Burgess.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. E.L. Sanders officiating and the Revs. John Johnson and Larry Barnes and Bishop Leroy T. James assisting.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Community Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
