Wilbur N. Maple
Wilbur Nathaniel Maple entered eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter.
He was a son of Clara Maple Bellamy and the late Andrew Service Sr., born in Sumter County on March 9, 1968. He was raised by his foster parents, Luther Bells Sr. and the late Hattie Mae Bells. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. In his youth, he attended St. Paul AME Church in Sumter. Wilbur was employed as a custodian for Morris College and as a cook and custodian for Big Jim’s until his health failed.
Survivors are his devoted mother, Clara Maple Bellamy of Silver; foster father, Luther Bells of Sumter; five brothers, Harry (Brenda) Neal of Nashville, Tenn., Clarence Wells, Andrew Service Jr., Luther (Deloris) Bells Jr. and Clarence Bells, all of Sumter; five sisters, Willie Mae (Virgin) Dunham, Melissa Bellamy, Angelina Service and Teresa (Dennis) Davis, all of Sumter, and Terry (Tyrone) Wright of Charlotte, N.C.
In addition to his father and foster mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hannibal James and Lucinda Maple James.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Graham, pastor.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Community Funeral Home of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
