Sarah I. Johnson

PINEWOOD – Sarah I. Johnson died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Hopewell Nursing Home in Sumter.

Born Oct. 30, 1945, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Simon Johnson and Laura Richardson Johnson. She was reared in a Christian home and became a member of Antioch AME Church at an early age. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County and continued her studies at Central Carolina Technical College, Sumter, where she majored in accounting.

In 1960, she moved to New York, where she pursued a career as an electronics technician. She continued her Christian education at Allen AME Church, where she served diligently until she returned to Rimini in 1984. Upon moving back to Rimini, she reinstated her membership with Antioch AME Church and served as a member of the usher board and the kitchen committee.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Cleo Johnson Mouzon, and her companion, Johnnie Lee Parker.

She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories a devoted and loving daughter, Cassandra Amber Johnson of the home; two stepsons, Joshua Parker of Boston, Mass., and Daniel Parker of Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, Lacy Williams of Washington, D.C.; one brother-in-law, Artis Mouzon of Queens, N.Y.; a loving caregiver, Valuare Charles of Pinewood; one aunt, Sarah Canty of Queens; six goddaughters; two godsons; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at Antioch AME Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. Georgeann Pringle, pastor, assisting the Revs. Melissa Green, Saymon James and Richard James.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
