Barnett Ragin
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” – Psalm 91:1.
During the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, God sent His angel to Atlanta, Ga., and took away our beloved Barnett.
Barnett was born Dec. 23, 1940, to the late Preston Ragin Sr. and the late Rosa Canty Ragin. He was reared in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He graduated from Scott’s Branch High School in 1957. He was employed by Startrans Trucking Co. for many years. He was united in holy wedlock to Carolyn Gipson Ragin and was the father of four children.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Preston Ragin Jr.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving and devoted wife, Carolyn Ragin of the home; three daughters, Yolanda Ragin of New York, Deloris (Robert) Parson of Rahway, N.J., and Fannie Johnson of the home; one son, Michael (Lillie) Ragin of Manning; two sisters, Dorothy Richardson of Pinewood and Julia (C.E.) Woods of Myrtle Beach; three brothers, George (Sadie) Ragin, Rufus (Earnestine) Ragin and James Ragin, all of Summerton; one aunt, Mary Mobley of New York; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church with the Rev. Dr. Melvin J. Capers, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
King Funeral Home of Summerton was in charge of arrangements.
