Volunteers with the Summerton Fire Department receive certificates of appreciation at the Summerton Fire Department Awards Banquet held at the Bassard Pond House. “You bring a special meaning to the fire department,” said Mayor Beth Phillips. “From the bottom of my heart, you’re the glue that makes it all stick together.”

Margaret Eagerton and W. John Buchko received recognition awards for perfect training attendance. “I know you don’t get paid for what you do, but you’re a tremendous asset,” said councilmember and fellow firefighter Jay Bruner.		Rev. David Thurlow was named Summerton Firefighter of the Year. At left is Public Works Director and Fire Chief Bucky Brailsford, who said, “It doesn’t matter whether it’s a brush fire or out on the interstate, Thurlow is always there to lend a hand and moral support.”
