Herbert H. Horton

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Herbert H. Horton, age 70, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at his residence in Niagara Falls.

Born Sept. 24, 1936, he was a son of the late Henry Horton and Emma Ragin Horton. At an early age, he joined Liberty Hill AME Church, Summerton. Upon graduation from Scott’s Branch High School, Herbert joined the U.S. Army. After traveling to serve his country, Herbert decided to make Niagara Falls his place of residence.

He leaves to cherish many memories: one son, Herbert Horton Jr. of Niagara Falls; a devoted friend for more than 30 years, Louise Herds of Niagara Falls; one brother, George Bradshaw of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Rosa Horton Tindal of Statesboro, N.C., and Ruby Broderick of Tampa, Fla.; one special sister-in-law, Curley Horton of Santee; special nieces, Carstine Horton of Santee, Shirley Harrington of Hephzibah, Ga., Toley Brown of Augusta, Ga., and Barbara Johnson of North Carolina.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, in the Chapel of Dyson’s Home for Funerals, Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Johnson officiating and the Rev. Thomas Horton as eulogist.

Final resting place was at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church cemetery.

Dyson’s Home for Funerals was in charge of the arrangements.
