William E. Blackmon
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – William Eugene Blackmon, 66, husband of Marlene Ferguson Blackmon, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Born April 18, 1940, in Indian Head, Md., he was a son of the late Worth R. and Louise Richburg Blackmon. He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant, having served from June 1960 through May 1982, including two tours in Vietnam. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. Mr. Blackmon sold insurance for various companies after his retirement and was a member of Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu.
Surviving besides his wife of the home are a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Brian) Gansle of Carrollton, Texas; three sons, Richard Brian Blackmon of Chevy Chase, Md., William Robert Blackmon and Benjamin Dean Blackmon of Statesboro, Ga.; a granddaughter, Gabrielle Gansle; a stepdaughter, Michelle M. (Rodney) Cline of Advance, N.C.; a stepson, William Martin Moon of Winston-Salem; a step-grandson, Tucker Jacob Cline; a sister, Lillian Barwick of Manning; and a sister-in-law, June B. Blackmon of Greensboro, N.C.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Worth R. and Wilbur A. Blackmon; and two sisters, Margaret B. Morrison and Mary Belle M. Richburg.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Kirk Carlisle officiating.
Burial with full military honors followed in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery in Alcolu.
Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning was in charge of arrangements.
