Lizzie C. Davis
PINEWOOD – Lizzie Carter Davis, 88, widow of Deacon Willie Davis, died Jan. 25, 2007, at her daughter’s residence.
Born Aug. 16, 1918, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Elliott Carter and Hattie Witherspoon Carter. Her education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, she joined Taw Caw Baptist Church and was a member of the usher board and young adult choir. After her marriage, she joined Mount Zero Baptist Church and was a member of the senior choir and deaconess board.
Survivors include one son, Willie L. (Bernice) Davis of Pinewood; two daughters, the Rev. Mary L. Hamilton of Pinewood and Hattie Davis-Hudson (Willie P.) of Sumter; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Rueben Davis Sr., four brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Mount Zero Baptist Church, S.C. 261, with the Rev. Henry Presley, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Terry Johnson, the Rev. William Scott and the Rev. James Carter Jr.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home of Manning was in charge of services.
