William J. Butler

William Jerry Butler, 65, died Jan. 29, 2007, at his brother’s home in Manning.

Born April 27, 1941, in the Ram Bay section of Manning, he was a son of the late Willie Butler and Oree Hymes Butler. He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Mount Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed by the South Carolina Department of Transportation, where he retired after 30 years of service and received many certificates for his service.

Survivors include his close friend, Viree White; two daughters, Pam R. White and Kim D. White, both of Manning; three brothers, Tarlton Butler and Adger Butler, both of Manning, and Willie J. (Mary) Butler of Baltimore, Md.; one nephew reared as a brother, John E. Butler of Manning; and three sisters, Susie M. Ragin of Florida, Eliza (Maurice) McCormick of Covington, Ga., and Lether (Elder James) Leach of Joppa, Md.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Lemon.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Mount Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, with the Rev. Carnell Witherspoon, pastor, officiating, assisted by Elder James Leach.

Burial was in Hilton Cemetery.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.
