Roosevelt Brogdon
Mr. Roosevelt Brogdon, husband of Armisher Brogdon, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Mariner Health of Sumter.
Born March 12, 1911, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Nora Brogdon and the late Rev. Fred Davis.
He came to Sumter at an early age and joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church. During his years at Jehovah, he served as a trustee. Mr. Brogdon retired from Georgia Pacific Furniture Co.; in addition, he did masonry and carpentry work and served as a part-time police officer in Mayesville.
Survivors include his wife, Armisher Brogdon of the home; one daughter, Sallie Davis of Columbia; three grandchildren, Shunda N. Davis and Johlyn S. Kennedy, both of Columbia, and Devin M. Kennedy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Joshua Davis of Chadbourn, N.C. and Paul Davis of Dallas. Texas; two sisters, Nancy Pegee of Chadbourn, N.C., and Queen Rouse of Fayetteville, N.C.; and a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Johnnie Mae Perry and Elaine Kennedy; three sisters, Emily Bolden, Madge Jackson and Annie Mae Sanders; and four brothers, Hudnell Brogdon, Richard Brogdon, Rhodie Brogdon and Ben Davis.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Marion Newton, pastor, officiating, assisted by Bishop Sammy C. Smith, the Rev. Tommy Duren, the Rev. Dr. Ellie Palmer, the Rev. Dr. Charles Duren Jr. and the Rev. Larry C. Weston.
Pallbearers and floral bearers were family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Sumter County Sheriff’s deputies.
Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Park.
Scriven Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
