Sadie S. Ridgeway
NEWBERN, Tenn. – Sadie Haley Smith Ridgeway, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center in Dyer County.
Born in Manning, she was a daughter of the late William Edward “Wilder” Haley and the late Ella Frierson Haley.
Mrs. Ridgeway was a member of First Baptist Church in Newbern and a retired seamstress for Pioneer Ltd. in Sumter.
She was twice married, first to the late Robert S. Smith and later to the late Louis O. Ridgeway.
Surviving are two daughters, Roberta S. (Mike) Hulme of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Ruth Prescott Pearson of Bishopville; two sons, Ronnie S. (Diane) Smith of Gable and George E. (Jean) Smith of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jesse Smith Cannon; a son, Robert Harvin Smith; 12 sisters; and two brothers.
She was the last surviving member of her family.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerry Watson and Mike Morris officiating.
Burial was in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
