George Allen Spry
George Allen Spry, 41, husband of Marti Bassard Spry, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at his home in Louisa, Va.
Born Jan. 27, 1968, in Manning, he was a son of George T. and Eva McDuffie Spry. On Nov. 25, 1995, he married Marti Bassard Spry. To this union, two beautiful children were born, Jordan and Schuyler. George accepted the Lord at an early age and became a member of Church of God By Faith, where he served throughout his youth. After moving to Virginia, he joined Galilee Baptist Church in Louisa.
He graduated from Manning High School in 1986 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Fayetteville State University in 1991. George was also a member of the National Guard. He was a probation officer for the state of South Carolina and later moved to Charlottesville, Va., where he continued his work as a probation officer. He was currently employed as a counselor at Henry Avenue Learning Center.
His passion in life was owning his own business. George owned and successfully operated Spry’s Barbeque and Catering Service. His list of clientele included University of Virginia, Darden School, Martha Jefferson Hospital, Monticello High School and Charlottesville City Schools. He was affiliated with the Xi Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. in Charlottesville.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Marti Bassard Spry; his children, Jordan, Schuyler and Monique; his parents, George and Eva McDuffie Spry; brother, Gary Spry; sister, Hattlena Spry; father and mother-in-law; John and Mary Ann Bassard; and brother-in-law, Dexter Bassard.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiating.
Burial was in Fourth Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
