Edward Prince Smith

Edward Prince Smith, husband of Doretha McFadden Smith, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Lake City/Scranton Health Care Center, Scranton.

Born Nov. 30, 1950, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Willie Hayward Brand and Effie Lee Smith Blake. He was a graduate of Walker Gamble High School, New Zion. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Hickory Grove AME Church, where he was a lifelong member. He worked as a machine operator with a paving company for many years.

Survivors are his wife, Doretha McFadden Smith of the home; a daughter, Crystal D. Smith of the home; a brother, John Burgess of New Zion; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Hickory Grove AME Church in the Hebron community, with the Rev. Melvin S. Williams, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Old McFadden Cemetery, Lake City.

Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
