Wilkins L. Broadway

Wilkins Lawrence Broadway, 92, husband of Agnes Broadway, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Clarendon County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Lewis and Mary Alice “Molly” Bradham Broadway. Mr. Broadway was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church and an avid gardener. He was retired from Korn Industries.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Broadway; one son, William Broadway; one stepson, Edward Gainey; three brothers, Kizer, Luther and Marion Broadway; three sisters, Leona Broadway, Mary Lou Foster and Thelma Dove; a granddaughter, Kim Allen; and a grandson, Gary Broadway.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; two sons, James Broadway of Sumter and Robert Broadway of Chino, Calif.; one daughter, Charlotte Hill of Sumter; one stepson, Jimmy Gainey of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Ann McDaniel of Sumter and Kathy Rutledge of Archbald, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday. Jan. 28, 2007 in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating.

Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Martin Broadway, Steve Broadway, Zannie Broadway, Ken Coker, Larry Hill and Donald Derrick.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Senior Adult Sunday School class.

Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and Crematory of Sumter, was in charge of the arrangements.
