Lillie Bell E. Critzos

Lillie Bell Evans Critzos, 86, passed away Jan. 15, 2008, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born Jan. 8, 1922, in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Tom Evans and the late Evie Knowlton Evans Prosser. She was baptized in the Methodist Church. She was a 1943 graduate of Winthrop College. After graduating from Winthrop, she moved to Newport News, Va., where she was employed as a mathematician at the space agency at Langley Field until 1962. After her marriage to Chris Constantine Critzos on June 30, 1962, she moved with her husband to Houston, Texas, where they participated in the startup of the NASA program at the Johnson Space Center. In 2004, Mrs. Critzos moved to Cheraw, where she lived until her death.

Surviving are a number of cousins, to include Gailya Wilson, with whom she resided.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Lorie Evans; and a brother, Tommy Evans.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in New Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Murray Gibbons and Maxie Knowlton officiating.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
