Ida C. Carter

FLORENCE – Ida Catherine Clyburn Carter, 71, of Florence, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at a Florence hospital, after an illness.

She was born in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Maxie and Pearl Norris Clyburn. She was a graduate of McClenaghan High School. She was a homemaker, devoted mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; adoptive parents, James and Edrie Welch Ironson and A.C. Haselden; and brothers, James Russell Clyburn and Hal Murdock Clyburn.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas Dell Carter Sr. of the home; children, Edrie Willis Truluck of Manning, Ida Elizabeth “Betsy” Rogers of Pawleys Island and E.S. “Son” Willis III of Florence; stepsons, Thomas (Donna) Carter Jr., Larry (Cynthia) Carter, Timothy (Susan) Carter, Daniel Carter and Tony (Candy) Carter, all of Florence; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and brothers, Billie Clyburn of Jacksonville, Fla., and Glen Clyburn Smith of New York, N.Y.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, Md. 20852, or to the Gospel Temple Worship Center Building Fund, 1507 King Ave., Florence, S.C. 29501.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. in the Florence Memorial Gardens chapel.

Entombment followed in the mausoleum.

Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home of Florence was in charge of arrangements.
