Richard H. Miller

Mr. Richard Harrison “Buck” Miller, 80, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born March 2, 1926, he was a son of the late Richard Miller and Mary Brown Miller McDonald and stepson of the late Charlie D. McDonald. He was joined in Holy matrimony to Madgelene Ragin for 55 years.

He received his formal education in Clarendon County. He was baptized at an early age and was a devoted member of Mount Zero Missionary Baptist for many years. Mr. Miller worked as a farmer most of his life, but also worked a variety of other jobs.

Mr. Miller, known as “Buck” to his family and friends, was a loving, gentle and kind man. His warm smile and generous nature endeared him to many. Although Mr. Miller and his wife were childless, they shared their love with their “adopted children.” Mr. Miller loved people, so it was not unusual when he continued to visit those who were sick or shut-in even when his own health began to deteriorate. Mr. Miller will long be remembered for his tender spirit.

Fond memories of “Buck” will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife; his three sisters, Vera Wineglass of Indianapolis, Ind., Alma B. Mack of Philadelphia, Pa., and Blondell (Manuel) Fargas of Summerton; two brothers, Alonzo R. McDonald of Summerton and Charles (Loretta) McDonald of Manning; a brother-in-law, Vernon Hampton of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Mattie Ragin of Orangeburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 15 at Mount Zero Baptist Church, Paxville, with the Rev. Henry Presley, pastor, officiating.

Final resting place was the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were nephews and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Henry Lawson, Archie Lemmon, Roosevelt Lemon, Roosevelt Postell, James L. Thompson, Roosevelt Wilson, Manuel Fargas, Alonzo R. McDonald and Charles E. McDonald.

Dyson’s Home for Funerals was in charge of the arrangements.
