James H. Carter
KINGSTREE – James Hill “Jimmie” Carter, 77, husband of Sarah Branch Carter, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Carolinas Hospital System in Florence.
Born May 11, 1930, in Loris, he was a son of the late Elder J. H. and Tyra Lee Carter.
He was self-employed in appliance service and repair and was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church in Little Rock. He was first married to the late Kathryn Miles Carter, then to the late Nancy Hadley Carter.
Surviving are his wife of Kingstree; five daughters, Terry (Ricky) Stokes of Bennettsville, Cindy (Jerry) Murphy of Clio, Robin (Darryl) Sweeton of Winston-Salem, N.C., Janis (Sidney) Rogers of Clio, and Margaret C. Lambert of Georgetown; a son, Jeffrey H. Carter of Myrtle Beach; three sisters, Dorothy (Charlton) Ard and Violet (Mike) Moody, Mike, all of Manning, and Bobbie (Lee) Reaves of Alcolu; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Darlene Bateman of Florence, Donna (Bobby) Pope of Lamar, and Dawn (Richard) Clark of Chesterfield; and five step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Carter and Johnnie Carter, and a sister, Pearl Benton.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Richard Alderman officiating.
Burial followed in the Manning Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Carter, Richard Rogers, Lee Reaves Jr., Jim Reaves, Shubert Cockfield and Donald Ard.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Walsh and Charlie Coker.

Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
