| Wayne Yackel, 66, poses for a picture holding his 8-iron in front of his home in the Wyboo Golf Community. Yackel used this club to shoot a hole-in-one on the #2 hole at Wyboo Golf Course. |
Wayne Yackel shot his first hole-in-one Nov. 26, 2007, at Wyboo Golf Club.
“I’ve been close but never had one go in,” he said. “I just hit in and it had a nice little draw, and with one hop it rolled in.”
He described the event as one of the biggest surprises.
“Up to that point it was nice golfing and all the sudden I thought ‘Wow!’” he said of his effort.
Yackel, who goes golfing three to four times a week hit the hole-in-one on the second hole with an 8-iron on a 134-yard shot.
Born in Rochester, New York, he retired from the Eastern Kodak Company and moved to Wyboo because of the weather.
“It’s just better here,” he said.
Yackel one thing that he really liked about the Wyboo community was the opportunity to meet people.
He said that he had caddied in his younger days but didn’t start playing the game of golf until he was 50.
Golfing doesn’t take all of Yackel’s time. He is also an avid tennis player, bass angler and downhill skier.
