Estelle P. Nelson
Estelle Pringle Nelson, widow of Leon Nelson Sr., died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at MUSC, Charleston.
Born May 17, 1931, in the Jordan section of Clarendon County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Pringle and Annie Pearson Pringle. She received her formal education in the Jordan community of Manning. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Antioch Baptist Church. She later joined St. James AME Church, where she was a faithful member until her health failed.
Survivors are two daughters, Jannie (Marion) Gamble and Ethel Singleton, both of Davis Station; seven sons, Leon Nelson Jr. and Leroy Nelson, both of the home, retired Command Sgt. Maj. Jerry (Yvette) Nelson of Albany, Ga., Thomas Nelson, Willie (Rosa) Nelson and Stephen Nelson, all of Davis Station, and Joel (Keisha) Nelson of Manning; three sisters, Fannie (Henry) Cubbage of Manning, Deloris Canty of Newark, N.J., and Patricia Braxton of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Johnson Pringle and James (Daisy) Pringle, both of Miami, Fla., and Daniel Pearson of Washington, D.C.; 25 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Charlie and Eugene Nelson, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at St. James AME Church in the Potato Creek section of Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Carter, pastor, officiating.
Burial followed in Historic Mount Zion AME Church cemetery.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
