Anna Govan
Anna Govan, 63, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born April 3, 1943, in Clarendon, she was a daughter of the late James and Hessie Belser Conyers. She received her formal education at Paxville Elementary School and her high school education at Lincoln High School in Sumter. At an early age, she accepted Christ and united with Chapel AME Church, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member. She was employed at Stone Hill Elementary School as a cook and later at Exide Battery, where she was employed until her health failed.
Survivors include two daughters, Ernestine and Roberta Govan, and one son, Rickey Govan, all of Sumter; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Nathan (Lynda) Conyers; two sisters, Lula (Junior Albert) Washington of Sumter and Ida Rivera of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Chapel AME Church, Paxville, with the Rev. William Scott, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Nate Brock, the Rev. Linda Conyers and Minister Roberta Montgomery.
Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Park.
Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
