Bennie Carter

Bennie Carter departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Windsor Manor in Summerton after an extended illness.

He was born in St. Charles to the proud parents, the late Charlie and Rebecca Carter on Jan. 11, 1945. He attended public schools in Lee County where he was a great football player. He attended Unionville AME Church in St. Charles. In 1968, the family moved to Sumter. He found work at Williams Furniture Co. Later, he was employed by Burgess and Brogdon. He was last employed as a landscaper until his health failed.

Precious memories will be cherished by two brothers, Charlie (Clara) Carter and Roosevelt Carter; three sisters, Virginia Epps, Alice Roberson and Ruth Smith; seven nephews; two nieces; one grand-niece and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carrie.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, in the Sumter Funeral Services chapel.

Burial followed in Bradford Cemetery.

Friends of the family served as pallbearers and flower bearers.

Sumter Funeral Services Inc., was in charge of arrangements.
